Tuesday November 30, 2010

Oh man, I actually miss snow. It's cold here, like 30 to 50 degrees. My face gets frozen when we bike. It's not too bad, even when its raining, we just try to get a ride to the places we need to go.
Thanksgiving was really great. We played football for like 4 1/2 hours then ate dinner with the bishop. We played farkle and nerts then went and ate with 2 recent converts (twins). They are the only members in their family so it was good to play games (like Spaz, Pass the Ace, and Spoons) and build friendships with the family. We are going to try and start teaching the family. This gospel really is great and I am glad that I have been born into it, to have a family that is so great. I love you.

Elder Hurst

ps. I may or may not have cracked the screen on my camera. So for christmas, if it's not too much, I may need a new camera. :) I love you.

Well, I am not District Leader any more and now that Elder Garrison flew home my mission president decided to make my a trainer. My greeny's name is Elder Thompson from Murry, Utah. He is an awesome missionary. He has some great ideas and he is a great teacher. It's going to be a really good transfer.
We had a lesson with our recent convert Brett Spaid, who is so awesome and so on fire with the gospel. We talked about the plan of salvation and what he believed before the church was in his life. He shared that he didn't really know any thing about where we came from and the answers the other churches gave him didn't make much sense. But when he learned about the whole thing, it felt like home. Elder Malm is coming on Tuesday to train us, and we almost got to teach one of our investigators with him. We also picked up a new investigator. His name is Fernando and we are going back to teach him, his mom and his sister tonight. We also have a 15 year old kid who wants to be baptized. His mom is a recently reactivated member, and he just started coming with her and now he wants to be baptized. Sweet!
I am sorry I don't write very much, I am no good at this whole emailing thing. Well, let's face it, I am no good at any thing that has to do with English` its unpossible for my to be doing it wright. :) So I don't. The church is still true. And I love you.

Love,
Elder Hurst

Monday November 1, 2010

Hello,
It sounds like Halloween was a blast. I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing good. Life after a mission seems so complicated and hectic. I'm glad I am here. Those costumes look great. I think that Patrick's and Lee's are my favorite, but Brian's and Bethany's were pretty good.
Well, the Byes are the family that were getting baptized on the 20th. It's prolly going to actually be after Thanksgiving but no biggy. They still are excited to be a part of the church, they just have a few things to work out. We had a sweet lesson with Robyn Tucker and a new fellow-shipping family. The Spirit was there and we were able to be bold and straight up that if she didn't read and didn't come to church she will never know. She still didn't make it to church but we will keep trying.
I almost kind of had my first crash on my bike. I was going about 1/2 of a mph and I turned a little and my bike tipped over. Since I stayed on my feet I don't count it as a crash, but my companion does. The Halloween party was pretty fun. There were a ton of awesome costumes, we went as Elders. (I know, crazy.) Anyway, they had some games and treats for the kids. They also had a baseball throw that tells you how fast you can throw it. My high was only 54, but the high of the night was only 67 so I didn't do too bad. We went tracting on Saturday. It was useless. Everyone was watching the baseball game. My companion would make some funny comment about what the home owner said just before they closed the door. Well, all is well and my companion goes home next Tuesday. I love you and hope all is well.
Love,

Elder Jared Hurst

ps. I thought Patrick was a cow and is Derrick's birthday on Halloween?
